Welcome message from President of UAE Swimming Federation

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you all to the opening leg of the FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup here in Dubai.

With the Dubai Sports Council having successfully hosted the 10th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) here last year, it is wonderful to see the swimming family back in Dubai again at what has become one of the city’s iconic landmarks – the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Sports Complex.

We witnessed some incredible swimming here last year with a number of world records being set and I have no doubt that once again, the Dubai fans will be treated to a speed spectacular.

It is events like this that play such an important role in inspiring the local budding swimmers, encouraging them that they too can achieve at the top level. They get to rub shoulders with some of the best swimmers in the world and learn from seeing them in action.

Swimming is still a growing sport in the UAE and we thank FINA for recognising the incredible potential here in the Middle East by awarding us the right to host this event. The FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup remains one of the most exciting series in world swimming – with participants having the opportunity to compete in seven legs of the competition which takes them from Dubai to Stockholm, Moscow and Berlin, and then on to Singapore, Beijing and Tokyo, between now and the middle of November.

Our sincere thanks must of course also go to the authorities and leadership of Dubai, without whose great support, an event of this nature would simply not be possible.

The UAE Swimming Federation is committed to developing this great sport even further and we look forward to welcoming you all back to our spectacular city for many years to come.

Best wishes to all the competing swimmers and to the spectators – enjoy a wonderful weekend of swimming action.

Ahmed Al Falasi
President of the UAE Swimming Federation
