Welcome message from the General Secretary of the Dubai Sports Council

Once again, Dubai will be hosting the best swimmers in the world competing for glory at the spectacular Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Sports Complex. This is the second time in ten months that we have been fortunate enough to see the world’s best in action here in Dubai.

Together with the UAE Swimming Association and Fédération Internationale de Natation  "FINA" we successfully organized and staged a splendid World Swimming Championship last December (2010) and now we present to you another spectacular event , the Swimming World Cup 2011, which we hope will be a memorable one for swimmers, organizers and fans.

The FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) which were held in Dubai from 15-19 December 2010, have left a great legacy in the city and Emirate for the sporting arena in general and for swimming in particular.

In its physical form that legacy is the pearl of sports facilities in Dubai, the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Sports Complex. For the community we conducted the DSC Program for Teaching 10,000 Children Swimming and to support this growing interest in swimming, have undertaken the construction of swimming pools in clubs and schools. We have also been able to give many of our youth the chance to work in the Championship's committees as volunteers, and to experience world class events first hand.

We aim to build on this legacy through the DSC’s strategy of hosting more international major championships.
The successful hosting of the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) in 2010 and the development of a strong relationship with FINA, along with a desire to popularize and enhance swimming in the UAE, all contributed to Dubai being granted the hosting rights for this event.

Swimming fans from around the region and the world eagerly await the chance to see the best in action again, and add to the great memories of the World Championship (25m) held in 2010.

The Dubai Sports Council is pleased to present this event to you, another step in our journey to seek a better future for sport in general and for swimming in particular.

Dr. Ahmed Al-Sharif
